Beat butter and shortening until soft and creamy. Gradually add sugar, beating at medium speed 5 to 7 minutes. Add eggs, one at a time. Combine flour and baking powder; add to creamed mixture alternately with milk. Stir in vanilla and walnuts. Pour batter into greased and floured 10-inch tube pan. Bake at 325° for 1 hour and 30 minutes or until wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool in pan 10 to 15 minutes. Remove from pan and cool completely on wire rack.
