Abstract
Coating, surface modification, and nanotechnology are some of the surface engineering techniques discussed in this chapter as potential ways to enhance the characteristics of processing equipment, packaging materials, and surfaces that come into contact with food. When it comes to solving important problems like food preservation, safety, and quality improvement, surface engineering techniques have emerged as new, inventive solutions in the food sector. Improved package performance, longer food shelf life, and less microbiological contamination are all possible outcomes of producers using these strategies. Surface engineering plays an important role in sustainable food production, as this chapter explains. It goes on to talk about how antimicrobial coatings, barrier layers, and environment
